Update!

I've been working off of a desktop computer at work and haven't had access to the software that allows me to post pictures. My first knitting projects and other such creative endevours will be posted tonight, finally!

The planning stages for the publication are in motion - I'm really excited about it! I've decided to keep the content hush-hush until it's more concerete. What I will say, however, is there's a connection between the content I've personally been writing about lately, and this paper. Right now I'm still laying out the business plan, brainstorming, and gathering resourceful links and outside publications to get ideas from. My partner and I have research to do "in the field" too.. meaning events and places to attend. Hold tight, I will reveal it in the next month or so.

I'm in a desperate need for a change in the template for this blog. I need something fresh. I need to switch without losing my past posts... is that even possible?? We'll see!

The Zone

Last night, I was watching TV with my boyfriend and we got to talking about Scribe and starting a publication of sorts. Not only is this something near and dear to my heart – something I’ve always dreamt of accomplishing, but working at The Journal is how I met my boyfriend, so it’s exhilarating to feed off of each others passion for writing. It’s refreshing to be close to someone who shares similar passions as you, and who encourages and believes in you as opposed to spouting out doubt and criticism. The reason why I feel a need to mention this is because before my current boyfriend came along, I felt like I was out to prove something to ‘those’ who were 'close' to me by overcoming their negativity and synicism. I thought at the time that this made me stronger and forced me to work harder, when in retrospect; it was just draining, and sometimes robbed me of the zest necessary to keep pushing for my goals. External doubt drives you to a point, but when there’s not only a lack of support, but a lack of belief right in your face everyday, it does subconsciously wear on the mind. Anyway, it’s a great feeling to be supported and I appreciate it so much that I needed to write it out.

So, like I said, we’re taking about starting a publication under the Scribe Solutions company. I’ve begun to organize the company again by figuring out what steps I need to take next. First and foremost, I need to get the business plan in order. I started it a year and a half ago, but it dropped off as graduation crept up on me, not to mention looking for a real job. I feel like I’m in the mental state again where I can concentrate on my career and at the same time, devote time to other things on the side - like in University. I knew it would happen eventually, when I felt like I had things under control again. We’re still not 100% sure what the publication will consist of, so I hesitate in talking too openly about it right now, but I will definitely be giving updates as it develops.

This means that for the next little while, during my time out of the office, I’ll be dedicating to working on the Scribe Solutions business plan along with the plan for the publication. I’m finally getting into the zone again. I’m sure you know what I mean by "the zone" – as everyone has a “zone”... you know... the mental space where you feel most productive, creative, and happy.

Picking up Speed!

I could be alone on this one – but is it just me or does having a career that you really love, doing something that you want to be doing, allow you to focus more on other un-relating interests you may have? It just seems like there would be less time to focus on other things. I found that while I was in University, all of my spare time was focused on being involved in business-type activities. Now that I devote most of my days to my job, I’m enjoying the fact that my spare time allows me to work on other things I always would have liked to work on, but just couldn’t. I guess it’s due to the satisfaction I am getting out of my job – I feel like I’m fulfilling some of my personal goals simply by doing my job that I’m paid to do - which is such a satisfying thing to say.

For example, I’ve been seriously tossing the idea around to get involved in a charitable marathon this summer – on my personal time. This is just an example of something that has always been on my “list to do’s” but was back-burnered due to time constraints and other priorities. I’m totally ecstatic right now though because today I inquired to my boss about getting involved in a charity walk this summer, and little did I know that we already sponsor an organization, the MS Society, and their summer walk! He gave me the go-ahead to work on it with our operations team (who have taken the lead on it in previous years). So, I’ve actually consolidated a personal goal with what is now a professional goal and activity. Even though I have my own selfish reasons for being excited about this, even if I wasn’t personally interested in it, this is just another great promotional and community-oriented event to work and build on for Purolator that I didn’t know existed... exciting stuff!! It’s this kind of community participation (and not to mention the encouragement from my boss to give me the chance to work on this project) that contributes to recognitions like this.

So far I have a few special projects lined up at Purolator. These projects, in conjunction with my FISP role and the ability to go on the road to see customers is just great - especially in recent months.

Last week was very interesting for me - and really, really busy! On top of several other tasks,I took the lead on inviting several of our bigger contract clients to the box seat at the Saturday night Mooseheads game. This provided me with the opportunity to shake hands with many of them as not only did I make the calls reserving the tickets, but I hand delivered them around Dartmouth and Halifax on Friday. I loved it! I love being busy like that and having deadlines. And of course I attended myself – Puro events are always a fun time.

Okay, enough about work…

Tomorrow, I’m going to The Loop after work to pick up some yarn and new needles. I’m not quite sure what kind of yarn I want yet, but this is the scarf that I’m attempting to make. I’m still a beginner, so this will be a challenge for me, but it’s a start. Those needles look ridiculously big though, don’t they? They’re like trees or something.

I have a few other things I’m working on that I have to do some research for, soI will update soon. Promise!
